SURVIVING ISO 9001:2015

Oxebridge Quality Resources’ founder and the author of Eyesore 9000, Christopher Paris, presents a fantastic, one-of-a-kind insight into how the latest version of the world’s foremost quality management standard got so wildly off the rails, and then provides unique implementation guidance for those companies that find they have still to implement it, whether to meet a customer mandate or simply to keep their QMS up to date.

Surviving ISO 9001 features all the humor and hard-hitting satire of Eyesore 9000, and comes with an adult language warning for occasional “sixteen-letter, four-letter words,” but despite the jokes, presents an incredible insight into how the standard was made, and how to interpret it for everyday use.

This massive 600+ page e-book is broken into three parts, which may be read in any sequence.

Part 1: Frankenstein Sets to Work

Mr. Paris presents the remarkable and eye-opening true story of how ISO 9001:2015 was developed, including the backroom deals, cynical profiteering and often outrageous actions of its authors. Mr. Paris reveals how contrary to popular belief, ISO does not “develop standards” at all, but instead operates as the world’s largest vanity press, and then makes decisions solely with the goal of publishing books, without consideration of the feedback of industry or standards users. With this in hand, the book provides the often astonishing manipulations that led to the inclusion of such convoluted concepts as “context of the organization” and “risk-based thinking.”

Part 2: The Creature Raids the Village

The second part provides a clause-by-clause breakdown of ISO 9001:2015, translating it into “Human English,” while offering proven and practical implementation solutions for each requirement. Mr. Paris then offers separate advice for manufacturing organizations vs. service providers, the latter of which are often ignored in ISO 9001 advice books. Finally, Surviving ISO 9001 includes “missing requirements,” which are either implied or ignored outright, to help fill the gaps between the actual ISO 9001 text and what companies really need to do.

Part 3: Bride of the Monster

Because implementing ISO 9001 by following the clauses in sequence is an impossible and inefficient task, Surviving ISO 9001’s third part provides an ordered implementation plan, which ensures the most efficient and effective implementation. Here the steps are provided in a logical sequence befitting users, rather than the often confusing sequence provided by ISO 9001 itself. The book then includes instructions and help on how to use the dozens of free ISO 9001 documents and files offered on the Oxebridge website.

Surviving ISO 9001:2015 is currently available as an e-book or hardcopy paperback, direct from Amazon and other online book outlets.

Enjoying

I just purchased and am 100 pages into your book and it is really speaking to me. I am currently getting ready for our annual internal audit in advance of our 3-year recertification to the new 2015 standard for both 9001 and 14001. I just wish I had found this book 12 months ago.

Amazing

Paris’s book is amazing, right from his documentation of the history of how the standard comes about (which should be appalling to all of us quality professionals), to his breakdown of the clauses, to how we can apply it in our organisations. (Full review here.)

Unbelievable!

Holy shit, they weren’t kidding. I’ve never read a “business” book like this before. From the humor to the information I don’t think anyone has written a book like this for the “boring” management crowd. Some people are going to be pissed but the amount of info here is incredible. Worth every penny!
